Waitangi Day Charity Dinner
 - TICKETS NOW ON SALE

On Friday, 10 February 2012 the New Zealand Society will be hosting the Waitangi Day Charity Dinner at one of the most spectacular Livery Halls in the City of London: Plaisterers' Hall at One London Wall.

Hilary Timmins, the well-known New Zealand television personality (including for 'It's in the Bag' and hosting the Saturday and Wednesday evening live 'Lotto' draws), will be our MC for the evening.

Our special guest speaker for the Dinner will be the New Zealand award-winning comedian and compere, Jarred Christmas.  He has compered large UK festivals, such as Sonisphere and Homelanz in 2011, and is a regular contributor at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival.  His television appearances include creating the BBC show, ‘The Persuasionists’ and making guest appearances on shows such as ‘Mock the Week’, the ‘Children in Need Mastermind Comedy Challenge’ and dressing up like Madonna for ‘Let’s Dance for Comic Relief’.  With his dynamic onstage persona, and robust comedy talent, he will be entertaining guests at the Dinner with his thoughts on Kiwis living abroad.  For more information about Jarred, and video clips, please see his website: www.jarredchristmas.com.

We will be welcoming our guests with a sparkling New Zealand wine reception, which will be followed by a three-course New Zealand-themed menu.  There will be formal welcome and entertainment by the wonderful Ngati Ranana London Maori Club.

In addition to hosting the New Zealand High
Commissioner, and other special guests, we
will also have the three finalists of the
UK New Zealander of the Year Award 2012 at
the Dinner. 

The European Regional Manager of Air New
Zealand will be announcing the winner of
the Award who (courtesy of Air New Zealand)
will receive free return travel for two from
the UK to New Zealand. Following formal
dinner, there will be dancing and a cash bar
bar available. 

All net proceeds from the Waitangi Day
Charity Dinner,as well as the Charity Raffle to
Raffle to be held during the evening,will go to
the New Zealand Society's Charity Fund.

The evening will be a formal affair, with ladies in evening wear and gentlemen in black tie and decorations. 

The Waitangi Day Charity Dinner is the most prestigious event of the New Zealand calendar in the UK and the surroundings of Plaisterers' Hall are simply breathtaking, making the evening a truly memorable event.

Waitangi Day Commemoration Church Service & Girdlers’ Hall Reception
 - TICKETS NOW ON SALE

The Waitangi Day Church Service will take place at St Lawrence Jewry-next-Guildhall, Guildhall Yard, City of London, EC2V 5AA from 6.30pm on Thursday, 9 February 2012 and will last approximately one hour.
 
The Church Service is free to attend (with no booking required), and is followed by a Reception kindly hosted by the Girdlers' Company at the Girdlers' Hall, Basinghall Avenue, City of London, EC2V 5DD.
 
There is a charge for the Girdlers' Reception of £8, the net proceeds of which (thanks to the generosity of the Girdlers' Company) go direct to the New Zealand Society Charity Fund.  To book your ticket please click here.


UK New Zealander of the Year Award 2012
- FINALISTS ANNOUNCED

Thank you for all your nominations for the UK New Zealander of the Year Award 2012 (which closed on 30 November 2011).  The Award is given by the New Zealand Society (and the prize awarded courtesy of Air New Zealand) to the person whom, in the judging panel's opinion, has made the most outstanding contribution to promoting the interests of New Zealand or New Zealanders in the UK.

We are delighted to announce that the finalists for the 2012 Award are (in alphabetical order):

- Bronwen Horton
- Kent Gardner
- Paul Kendrick. 

The winner of the Award will be announced by the European Regional Manager of Air New Zealand at the Waitangi Day Charity Dinner (see above).

PRIZE DRAW WINNER

Trevor Sutton is our lucky winner of the Prize Draw for his nomination for the UK New Zealander of the Year Award 2012 (which was drawn by chance).  Trevor wins two tickets to a New Zealand Society event of his choosing between March and November 2012.

About us

The New Zealand Society provides opportunities for people with an interest in New Zealand who reside in the United Kingdom to meet socially.  We are a non-profit, voluntary society, with a dedicated Committee from many different backgrounds, all of whom have a desire to put something back into our UK Kiwi community. Please let us know if you are interested in joining the Committee, or helping in another way.


A varied calendar of events takes place each year, and in February we hold a annual Waitangi Day Charity Dinner, as well as a commemorative church service. Together with Air New Zealand, we award one person as the UK New Zealander of the Year, for recognition of outstanding contributions towards promoting the interests of New Zealand or New Zealanders in the UK. We also raise money for our charitable fund for worthy New Zealand/UK causes: see our Charitable Donations page.
